Here are answers to questions we are frequently asked:
Q: Does Gridpoint Atlas work with GPS?
A: No, but it doesn’t need to because Google Earth does. If you do a search for Google Earth GPS, you will see many topics discussing the use of GPS with Google Earth. We decided to spend our time creating Google Earth-compatible files (KML files) that could be viewed in Google Earth. But also to let Google Earth handle the linking to GPS. This makes our software much less expensive for you to buy.
Q: Why do we have to have two programs to do this (Gridpoint Atlas and Google Earth)? Why didn’t you just create a Google-Earth-type viewer?
Q: What grid systems does Gridpoint Atlas calculate?
A: Gridpoint Atlas calculates the World Grid discovered by Captain Bruce Cathie. It does not calculate any other grid systems. He found that the major grid lines were 7.5 nautical miles apart. Accordingly, our software allows you to plot the 7.5′ grid, but also allows you to define your own grid resolution. We had several requests for that ability, so we provided it in the product.
